About Competences
The Competences feature enables you to create tailored learning paths by organizing relevant courses into goal-oriented sequences. In order to "achieve" the competence, the learner needs to complete all the courses in the path or paths.
Competences will help you create structured learning paths and engaging learning journeys, keeping your learners motivated to achieve their goals! π€©
Examples of use cases:
If an employee needs to complete a set of three courses to be "certified" in a specific task, you can create a competence that includes those courses.
βProvide a clear learning path for new employees by creating a competence called "Onboarding Program." This competence can include all the necessary courses for new hires.

Create a Competence
Before creating a Competence, make sure you have already created the necessary courses, then:
In Studio, in the course list, click Competences in the top-left corner.
To create a new competence, click the button New Competence (top-right corner).
Enter a title and description, and customize the badge to match your brand colors.
Add a Path name to create a learning path.
Click Add Courses to start adding courses.
βοΈItβs best to use one single learning path to group courses. If multiple paths are added, learners will achieve the competence by completing just one, which may not meet the intended learning goals.
Hover over a course to:
Click the more menu (the three dots) to View or Remove a course from the path.
Click and drag the reorder icon to reorder courses in the path.
π‘Tip: To quickly edit, for example, settings in a course, click View. The course will open and you can make the necessary changes.
Enroll learners in a Competence
Go to the Learners tab and enroll manually or use Auto-enrollment.
βοΈNote that when a learner is enrolled in a Competence, the learner is not automatically enrolled in any courses. Each course has its own enrollment flow and settings.
Settings
In the tab Settings, you find different settings related to the Competence:
Include in catalog: Set the toggle to on (green) to include in catalog.
Catalog Access (addon feature): Give access to specific groups. By default, the competence is available to everyone.
Categories: Add one or more categories to group different competences.
Tags: Use tags to segment your competences.
Roles: Add users to a role within this competence.
βοΈWhen including a competence in the catalog, the courses in the path are not automatically added to the catalog. Each course has its own settings.

When opening a Competence, the learner will get a clear overview of the learning path and the progress toward achieving the specific competence:
In the catalog
When Competences are added to the catalog (in Competence Settings), learners can easily access and explore them through the designated Competence tab within the catalog.
Course progress
A course can be added to several Competences and if a learner has completed the course in one competence, the course will be set as completed.
A Learner does not automatically achieve a Competence if the Learner completes all courses in a "path" for a Competence but isn't added/enrolled to the Competence.
