Understanding SCORM
What is SCORM?
SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) is a technical standard for eLearning. It ensures smooth communication between online learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMSs).
What Does a SCORM File Look Like?
SCORM files are packaged as ZIP files, e.g., file_name.zip, created using eLearning authoring tools.
When Should I Use SCORM?
You should use SCORM if:
You’ve purchased SCORM-compatible courses.
You’re migrating SCORM courses to Learnster.
You’re creating courses with an eLearning authoring tool.
Pros and Cons of SCORM
Advantages
Works across multiple LMSs.
Supports third-party content creation tools.
Disadvantages
Doesn’t show progress between start and completion for admins.

How SCORM Content is Displayed
By default, SCORM opens in a new browser tab (recommended). Display settings can be adjusted under eLearning settings.
Supported SCORM Version
Learnster supports SCORM 1.2. However, it does not support exporting courses in SCORM format. This limitation should be considered when planning course content and distribution strategies.
Troubleshooting SCORM Issues
If you face installation issues, contact support. For smoother workflows, rebuild courses using Library items after uploading SCORM files instead of exporting/importing large packages. Maintaining a well-organized Library with clearly labeled SCORM files can also save time during course creation and updates. Additionally, for courses with large SCORM files, consider breaking them into smaller files or uploading them directly to the Library to streamline the process.
