Need to bring past training records into Learnster? Whether your learners completed courses on another platform or attended classroom training before you switched to Learnster — you can import those completions so their full learning history lives in one place. 📋
There are two import types, each with its own template and tab. Always use the right one — uploading to the wrong tab will not update course history records.
Go to Studio → Users → Import Learners and choose the tab that matches your data.
Import External Course History
Use this tab for completions from outside Learnster — another LMS, a classroom course, a webinar, or any external training. The course doesn't need to exist in Learnster; the record is added directly to each learner's personal course history.
Go to Studio → Users → Import Learners and open the Import External Course History tab.
Click the template link to download the CSV template.
Fill in the required columns: user identifier, course name, and completion date.
Upload the completed file and confirm the import.
Imported records appear in each learner's individual course history in Learnster U. They are not linked to any course analytics.
Import Learnster Courses History
Use this tab when the course exists in Learnster but the completions happened before learners were tracked in the system — for example, after migrating from another LMS or recreating a course in Learnster. The imported records are linked to the Learnster course, so they count in course analytics and compliance reporting.
Go to Studio → Users → Import Learners and open the Import Learnster Courses History tab.
Click the template link to download the CSV template.
Fill in the required columns: user identifier, the Learnster course ID, and completion date.
Upload the completed file and confirm the import.
ℹ️ If the course is archived, you'll need to unarchive it before importing history. Once the import is complete, you can re-archive it.
Common issues
Records not appearing after upload — check that you used the correct tab. A file uploaded to the wrong section (e.g. Import Users) will not update course history. Re-upload through the correct tab; there is no risk of duplicates if the user has no existing history for that course.
Archived course error — unarchive the course first, complete the import, then re-archive.
Need to remove an incorrectly imported record? — See Delete Course History from a User Card.
