When a learner doesn't receive an invitation email after being enrolled, it's almost always one of a few things: the notification is turned off, the email went to spam, or there's an issue with the learner's email address. Here's how to work through it. 📧
Step 1 — Check whether the notification is enabled for the course
Go to Studio → Courses → [Course name] → Settings → Notifications.
Confirm that the Send enrollment notification toggle is switched on. If it's off, Learnster won't send anything regardless of how the learner was enrolled.
Step 2 — Check how the learner was enrolled
The enrollment method affects whether a notification fires:
Manual enrollment (adding a user directly from the course's Learners tab): triggers a notification if the course notification setting is on.
Self-enrollment via Catalog: if the learner enrolled themselves through the Catalog, no invitation email is sent — they're already in the course.
Step 3 — Verify the learner's email address
Go to Studio → Users → [Learner] → Information and confirm the email address is correct and doesn't have a typo. If it's wrong, update it and re-add the learner to the course to trigger a new notification.
Also keep in mind: if the user was originally added with an email address that didn't exist at the time, this may have caused a hard bounce, which automatically blocks that address from receiving future notifications. If you suspect this is the case, contact our support team — we can help unblock the address.
Step 4 — Ask the learner to check spam / junk
Notification emails from Learnster can occasionally be filtered by corporate email servers. Ask the learner to check their spam or junk folder and, if found, mark it as not spam so future emails land in their inbox.
Step 5 — Remove and re-add the learner to trigger a new email
To trigger a new enrollment email, remove the learner from the course and re-add them. Go to Studio → Courses → [Course name] → Learners, find the learner, remove them, then add them again with the notification setting enabled.
