Learnster's v37 release brings plenty of improvements in content management, compliance reporting and course history management, along with a major unlock in how learners can access knowledge inside their Learnster courses by introducing AI-powered search.

Here's what's new:

AI-powered Search: We are unlocking instant access to knowledge in Learnster U, by introducing AI-powered Search for learners to find exact information they are looking for, using natural, everyday language.
Library improvements: Finding and downloading any content file in Studio Library is now made easier with a redesigned unified view.
Mediaflow video embedding: Course pages now support embedding videos hosted on Mediaflow
External course history - managers are now able to bulk upload course history, directly from team view.
Compliance reports - including records of completions from previous compliance periods in reports is made possible with a new toggle.
Competences improvements - We are enabling limiting catalog access to participants of a competence by adding competence as an attribute in the course catalog access settings.
Bug fixes and other improvements - several fixes made around course completions, assets in processing state, advanced rules, reactivated users, inactive users and course certificates.

AI-powered Search

We are introducing AI-powered Search in Learnster U, giving learners a new way to engage with the knowledge held within Learnster courses and significantly improving the learning experience. Learners are now able to find exact information they are looking for, across the courses they have access to, using natural language instead of exact keywords.

Here’s how it works:

AI-powered Search is available through the search bar in Learnster U.
Learners can type a question or describe what they're looking for in their own words. AI interprets the meaning behind the question and matches it to the excerpts of course content whose context fits best- so results stay relevant even when the exact search wording doesn't match
Search results show short excerpts from the matching content, along with the course they belong to, so learners can confirm it’s the right answer. Learners can also jump straight to the relevant spot in the course from the search result, to quickly find the context of search result.
Search results always respect existing course permissions- learners only ever see content from courses they have access to.

Library improvements – unified content file view and navigation

The Library's media file section, has gotten an upgrade for improved usability when handling different media file contents. We have renamed the media file tab to “Content files” and improved the user experience to make finding and downloading content more intuitive, regardless of what file type you're looking for.

This update brings a unified experience:

When you open the Content Files tab, you land directly on a consolidated list of all available media files with a unified search bar across all content files, making it discoverable from the first click
All content files are now displayed in a single table view with a content group filter at the top
The download button is now prominently displayed across all media file types, so users can find and download content instantly
Upload abilities are extended from single upload to bulk upload
SCORM 1.2-based content and plain HTML-Packages (vanilla html, js and css) are now able to be previewed

This is especially valuable for customers building a scalable content repository: a single, searchable, filterable list makes it easier to keep large volumes of files organized and reusable over time.

Bulk upload of external course history for team managers

We have included the option to bulk upload external course history directly from the team view. This is especially helpful when the entire team has taken the same course, which previously required each team member to update their own course history, or admin assistance with bulk upload.

In the external courses tab in the team view, managers should:

Download the template for bulk upload
Add all details according to the template
Upload the template

All external course history records will then be added accordingly.

Please note that this template is only for the course details. If there is a certificate file that should be uploaded as well, this can now be attached to each record by clicking the record to expand a modal and uploading the file.

Competences improvements

We have made it possible to limit catalog access of a course to the participants of a competence, by adding competence as an attribute in the catalog access settings in courses.

Enabling catalog access for the participants in the competence allows participants to choose their own path in the competence. Participants can enroll in the courses included in the order and pace they prefer instead of being assigned courses in a predetermined order and time.

In the next release, we aim to improve this further by implementing an automation on competence level to enable this setting in all courses included in the competence, which will remove the manual steps of setting up catalog access for each course.

Compliance reports

If a course has compliance periods activated, reports previously only stated the most recent status of this course for the student. If a student completed the course in previous compliance periods but not in the current period, the previous completions were not included in the report.

In this improvement we are enabling including records of previous completions:

In analytics: toggle to choose if historic data should be included or only current status. Similar to how it works to include inactive users in the reports.
In course: new downloadable report added to courses with compliance settings turned on.
In the next release, we aim to include a filter in the Learners list on course level, enabling inclusion of previous completions in the UI as well.

With this improvement, it will be possible to ensure audit-ready reporting with a complete record of all course completions in courses with compliance periods activated.

Bug fixes and other improvements

Users who have completed a course with static completion criteria will no longer be notified if there is new content or new scheduled events added to the course.
Made a fix around assets that has been stuck in processing state which has caused problems when creating course copies, and AI translation issues.
“Revert action if not true” in advanced rules will now only affect users who were added through the advanced rule.
The "Mandatory" flag logic will now also be applied to learners who were enrolled in a course through an advanced rule.
We have implemented a new course certificate generation logic which will heavily reduce the number of broken certificate generation calls.
In courses with limited seats, inactivated users could take up a seat which hindered users from being added to the course through the waitlist. These inactivated users are now automatically removed from the courses, freeing up seats to be filled from the waitlist.
In the Learners list, a new filter to include inactivated users who have completed the course has been added. This allows for a complete overview of all completions of the course.
Inactivated users that have been reactivated used to experience a delayed synchronization of their compliance status in courses with a compliance period. This synchronization is now initiated at the time when the user is activated instead, ensuring correct compliance statuses are shown without delays.
