Version 36- Release 25th of May

Written by Kristina Stojanovic

We're releasing another Learnster update focused on compliance management and course control. This release gives admins and managers the tools to enforce mandatory training, manage both internal and external course records with greater precision, and other improvements that make day-to-day work of running a learning operation smoother.

  • External certificates tracking: Keep track of your team's externally uploaded certificates in one place β€” spot expiring or overdue certifications at a glance and ensure critical licences never slip through the cracks.

  • Mandatory courses labeling and tracking: Make it clear to learners which courses they need to prioritize β€” assigned learners will now see a mandatory label directly on the course, while administrators can toggle mandatory status per course and track it in reporting.

  • Completion criteria for Competences and Orchestrator Initiatives: Take full control over how completion is calculated for Competences and Orchestrator Initiatives, choose whether learner progress stays completed when content is updated, or recalculates automatically.

  • AI Translation improvements: Our AI Translator now understand the context of your course content, producing more accurate, natural output with formatting fully intact.

πŸ“… Rollout starts on Monday, 25th of May. If you have any questions or would like specific details about when your environment will be updated, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.

External Certificates Tracking

Managers can now get a complete overview of their team's externally uploaded certificates in one place. A new External Certificates tab has been added to the Team view, available in both Learnster U and Studio.

What's new:

  • Richer uploads β€” learners can now add a category and an expiry date when uploading a certificate

  • Team overview β€” all uploaded certificate entries for the team are collected in one report. The report includes a status column, indicating whether a certificate is completed (green) or overdue (red) based on the expiry date

  • Filtering and export β€” the report can be searched, filtered by category, sorted by any column, and downloaded

  • Expiry notifications β€” automated notifications are sent when a certificate is approaching its expiration date

Why this matters: For many organisations, external certifications β€” such as industry licences or legally required training β€” are just as critical as anything completed inside Learnster. This gives managers a clear, reliable view of where the team stands, all in one place.

ℹ️ External Certificates is a feature that needs to be enabled for your organisation. Reach out to Customer Success if you're interested in getting access.

Mandatory Course Labeling and Tracking

Learners can now see at a glance which courses they're required to complete. Labels indicating which courses are mandatory to complete have been added to courses in Learnster U.

What's new:

  • Courses can now be marked as mandatory at the course level, using a simple toggle

  • A mandatory label is displayed to learners who have been assigned to a mandatory course, making it easy to identify priority content on the home page

  • Learners who have enrolled themselves via the course catalog will not see the mandatory label, even if the course is marked as mandatory

  • Mandatory status is now included in reporting, giving administrators clearer insight into completion of required training

Why it matters When learners have multiple courses on their home page, it hasn't always been obvious which ones require their attention. This update makes that distinction clear, helping learners prioritize and ensuring nothing critical gets overlooked.

Completion criteria for Competences and Orchestrator Initiatives

You now have control over how completion is calculated for Competences and Orchestrator Initiatives. Users can now configure between static or dynamic completion criteria:

  • Dynamic criteria β€” completion is recalculated whenever content changes (existing behavior)

  • Static criteria β€” completion is locked once achieved, regardless of future content additions

Why this matters: Previously, completion was always dynamic, meaning if new courses were added to a Competence or Orchestrator Initiative after a learner had already completed it, the Competence would revert to incomplete. This caused unexpected changes in learner progress and made it harder to maintain a reliable record of achievement.

This gives users more predictable progress tracking, and the flexibility to decide what "completed" actually means in their context.

ℹ️ Competences and Orchestrator Initiatives are both functionalities available for Core-plan users, reach out to your Customer Success Manager to get access.

AI Translator updates – context-aware output and formatting fixes

This release brings some quality improvements of the translation output generated by our AI Translator tool. The AI translation engine now uses full course context to produce more accurate, natural translations- understanding the subject matter, tone and terminology, and uses that understanding to produce translations where words and phrasing are properly adapted to the context.

In addition, several formatting bugs have been resolved:

  • Duplicated text blocks β€” translated courses were incorrectly repeating content across pages in multiple languages

  • Extra content elements β€” some translated pages contained activity fields not present in the original course

  • Formatting loss around bold text β€” words adjacent to bold-formatted text were running together due to missing spaces in the translated output

  • Missing emojis β€” emoji characters were dropped in certain translated content blocks

Translated courses now match the structure and formatting of the source course, and read naturally in the target language.

ℹ️ AI Translator is available as an add-on. Contact your Customer Success Manager for more information.
