In Library, you can create and save course content and add it to as many courses as you'd like. Adding content to Library is very useful if you're going to use the content in more than one course. It's also useful for reusing pages as "templates".
In the Library you're able to store:
ℹ️ You can also create and store quiz and survey questions in your Question Bank in Library. This lets you fetch questions directly from your question bank when creating a new quiz or survey.

Create an item in Library
Go to Studio and open the Library.
Choose item in the left menu and then click the button New [item].
Add your content and save.
The item is now listed in Library. In the assigned column you can see how many courses the item has been added to and in the reactions column you can see what your learners think about your content. To delete or duplicate the item, click on the More options menu (the three dots) to the right when you hover over the item in the list.
Add a Library page to a course
To add a page from Library:
Open a course.
Go to the course outline and click on Add Page from Library.
A side panel will open up where you can search for Library items. Click on the item to add it to your course.
You can also click on Create New Page and search directly among your Library items.
ℹ️ The Library icon (a clip) shows that the page is attached to the Library.
Please note that a library item will be marked as completed if a user has finished it in a previous course. Detach the library item in the course to reset the progress.
Detach a Library item from a course
After adding a Library item to a course, you can detach it and it becomes a regular page and you can make any changes to it without affecting the Library item. You can't edit a Library item in a course if it's not detached but you can choose to Edit master Activity. If you edit the master item directly in the Library then this will affect all courses that are linked to the item.
You can also:
Save a page to Library
Update existing Library page
Save as a new page in Library
Duplicate the page
Group Library items
To manage many items more easily, you can create groups in your Library. With groups, you will be able to create folder-like groups to manage large quantities of items. Groups can be created for pages, quizzes, surveys and custom messages.
Create a Group and add Library items
Go to Library. Choose item (page/quiz/survey/custom messages) in the left menu and click it.
Hover over the item group headline in the left menu and click the + symbol.
Name your group and click Submit.
To add Library items you can go to the list of Library items and hover over the item you want to add to a group and click Add to groups in the Groups column. A Library item can be added to multiple groups.
Decoupling a Library page from a course
When you add a page from the Library to a course, it stays linked by default — updates made to the Library version automatically update the course page. If you want to edit the page independently within the course (without affecting the Library version), you must detach it.
To detach: open the page in the course editor → click the library link indicator → select Detach from Library (or Use local copy). The page becomes an independent copy; future changes to either version will not affect the other.
⚠️ Detaching cannot be undone. If you want to re-link to the Library version later, you will need to remove the local copy and re-add the Library page.
Translated surveys create separate Library entries
When you create a translated version of a survey, Learnster saves it as a separate survey object in the Library — not as a multilingual version of the same survey. This means survey analytics are also split by language version. To consolidate data, export each version as CSV and merge manually.
Managing Shared Library Pages to Avoid Duplicate Entries in Reports
When using shared Library pages across multiple courses, duplicate entries in Library-exported policy reports can occur. This section explains why this happens and provides best practices to manage shared Library pages effectively.
Why Do Duplicate Entries Occur?
Duplicate entries appear in Library-exported policy reports when the same policy page is attached to the Library and used across multiple courses. This happens because any progress a user makes on a Library-attached page in one course is stored and carried over to all courses where that page exists. If a user is enrolled in multiple courses that include the same Library page, multiple entries for that user will appear in the Library report. This behavior is expected and results from the shared nature of Library pages.
Best Practices to Avoid Duplicate Entries
To prevent duplicate entries in Library reports, consider the following approaches:
Detach the Policy Page from the Library
Detach the policy page from the Library in the courses where it is used, or avoid attaching it to the Library altogether. This ensures that each course has its own standalone copy of the page.
Use Standalone Library Pages
Attach the policy page as a standalone Library page specifically for each course, rather than using a shared Master Library page. This prevents progress on a shared page from being recorded across multiple courses.
Unenroll Users from Old Courses
Ensure users are unenrolled from any old courses where the shared Library page exists. This allows you to rely on the Parent Course Progress report instead of the Library report, which can help eliminate duplicate entries.
Additional Considerations
When managing shared Library pages, it’s important to weigh the benefits of centralized content against the potential for duplicate entries in reports. If tracking individual course progress is critical, using standalone pages or detaching them from the Library may be the best approach. However, if maintaining consistency across courses is a priority, shared Library pages may still be the preferred option despite the possibility of duplicate entries.
