Course Export and Import

Copy a course from one vendor to another — even across Learnster environments — using Export and Import.

Written by Robin Janevret

Need the same course in more than one vendor? With Export and Import you can copy a complete course — including its content and settings — from one vendor to another, even if the vendors live in separate Learnster environments. 📦

How it works

When you export a course, Learnster packages the course content (pages, documents, videos, and other materials) together with its settings into an export code. You then use that code to import the course into the destination vendor, where it's added as a new, unpublished course.

Export a course

  1. In the source vendor, go to Studio → Courses.

  2. Find the course you want to copy and click the ... (Options) button on the right.

  3. Select Export.

  4. Wait while the export package is prepared — this can take a few minutes for larger courses.

  5. Copy the generated export code.

Import the course

  1. Switch to the destination vendor.

  2. Go to Studio → Courses and select Import course.

  3. Paste the export code and confirm.

  4. Give it a little time — the course is created in the background and will appear in your course list shortly.

The imported course arrives unpublished, so you can review and adjust it before making it available. When you're happy with it, publish the course and add it to your catalog as usual.

Good to know

  • The export contains the course content and settings — learner enrollments, progress, and history are not copied.

  • Both environments need to run the same Learnster version. If an export or import fails unexpectedly, a version mismatch between the two environments is the most common cause — reach out to support and we'll help you out.

  • Looking to copy a course within the same vendor? Use Duplicate instead — no export needed.
